Food Playbook

August 7-22, 2026 • 2 adults + Neasa (10) + Lexie Mae (2)

Operating Idea

Family-style vacation food: lots of grilling, two Sunday Walmart deliveries, local seafood from the Cortez markets, a handful of planned meals out plus two ballpark nights, and enough convenience food to protect everyone from hangry beach-house chaos.

Quick Schedule

WhenWhat
Sat Aug 8Arrival. Drive cooler, takeout dinner, do not cook.
Sun Aug 9Walmart Delivery + local stop. Big Sunday prep day.
Aug 10-15Week 1: taco night, pasta night, grill nights, photo day (8/12), boat day (8/13). Star Fish dinner out Friday.
Sun Aug 16Walmart Delivery + Publix steamed seafood night. Restock for Week 2.
Aug 17-22Week 2: Cortez fish night, two ballgames (8/18 + 8/21), breakfast-for-dinner, one more meal out.

Portion Approach

You

Cut-friendly portions, high protein, moderate starch, lighter sauces. Target: 1,450-1,650 cal/day if tracking.

Patrick

Weight-loss portions but bigger. Add more protein, rice, potatoes, rolls, tortillas, corn, and snacks rather than making separate meals.

Neasa (10)

Normal kid portions: protein, fruit, carbs, easy snacks.

Lexie Mae (2)

Soft foods: goat milk, eggs, chicken, rice, sweet potatoes, yogurt, fruit, cheese, cottage cheese.

No tomato-heavy plan. Pizza sauce and taco sauce are fine in moderation. Skip salsa, fresh tomatoes, marinara, and tomato-heavy dinners.

Saturday Arrival Survival Plan

Pack a Drive Cooler

Water, Zero Sugar Gatorade, sole water, protein shakes, cheese sticks, fruit, applesauce pouches, sandwiches or wraps, kid snacks.

When You Arrive

Keep dinner intentionally easy: takeout, pizza, or a quick stop for rotisserie chicken, bagged salad, fruit, and rolls.

Sunday Morning Before Delivery

Use cooler food, bananas, protein bars/shakes, applesauce pouches, and coffee picked up on the way. Don't cook; delivery arrives mid-morning.

Tiny sanity rule: Saturday night is not a cooking night. Unload, feed people, get kids settled, sleep.

Week 1: Sunday, August 9 Walmart Delivery

Delivery Strategy: Sunday morning arrival window. Stock Week 1 plus easy backups. Follow with a local stop for produce.

Same cart, same checkmarks as the Grocery Orders page — check items off here or there, they stay in sync.

Order #1 — The Full List

Week 1 Sunday Prep: Step by Step

  1. Organize fridge: Raw meat on one shelf, cooked/ready-to-eat on another. Label containers: taco beef, fruit, veggies, Lexie, snacks.
  2. Wash & prep fruit: Watermelon, strawberries, grapes. Cut some; leave some whole for later.
  3. Slice veggies: Lettuce, tomato, onion for burger night and taco night. Keep salad dry with a paper towel.
  4. Grill burgers & brats: That's Sunday dinner, straight off the prep. Corn on the cob alongside.
  5. Brown a double batch of taco beef: Half for Monday's taco night, half for Friday's lunch nachos. Salsa and tomato stay on the side.
  6. Make overnight oats: 4-6 servings for adult breakfasts.
  7. Build snack bin: String cheese, applesauce, pretzels, Goldfish, popcorn, jerky.
  8. Load the beach cooler for Monday morning so it's grab-and-go.
  9. Don't buy seafood yet — the seafood nights are Week 2, with fish from the Cortez markets cooked the same day.

  1. Clean fridge: Toss anything past it. Move usable leftovers to an "eat first" shelf.
  2. Unload delivery and organize by zone.

  4. Publix run for Sunday dinner: shrimp or crab legs from the seafood counter, steamed free while you shop.
